Driver Training

Phillip Island Young Driver Safety Initiative

This half day defensive driving program has been designed for young drivers with a mix of practical and theoretical components to develop better on-road driving skills  and attitudes that may one day save their or someone else’s life. The course caters to newly licensed or inexperienced drivers and involves them learning in their own cars, giving them an understanding of how the vehicle reacts in emergency breaking situations whether their car is equipped with ABS or not.

The practical driving component of our defensive driving program is conducted on the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit Skid Pan. Consisting of various road exercises including emergency braking, swerving and multiple direction changes at suburban speeds in wet and dry conditions.

The theoretical component is conducted in our lecture room on both a group and an individual basis. Topics covered include; driver attitudes, distractions whilst driving, driving on country roads in both day and night, car overloading as well as the effects of alcohol and drugs.
